Mangrove surfacing. Note how the top of his dorsal fin is missing.
Echo the dolphin is easily recognized by his/her damaged dorsal fin.

These are my best photographs of Echo and Mangrove from the event when we finally solved the mystery of Echo’s fin. Note the light-colored wavy lines on Mangrove’s side. Those are called “rake marks,” and they are teeth marks from another dolphin raking its jaw along Mangrove’s side. Although they may look fully viscous, Dolphins inflict these rake marks on each other during both aggressive fights and play.
